With all the concerns and issues with Internet viruses and software bugs, ORTRACKM felt the need to warn its customers in advance of instances where their computers may be subject to harm. Therefore, the Critical Warnings Link on ORTRACKM Update was implemented. (also on the Virus Alerts Page)

In addition to the Critical Warnings link, we added a Systems Warnings Notification on our home page. We will update these Warnings whenever we determine there may be something that might affect your computer or your use of the Internet. So if you haven't made ORTRACKM your home page, this is a good reason to do it now!

Most critical warnings are issued by the Microsoft Corporation in relation to their Windows products. Hackers find "holes" within the code of Microsoft products, and when this happens, Microsoft releases patches (or fixes) for these problems.

By visiting the Microsoft Windows Update site regularly, you can guard yourself and your computer from many of hours of troubleshooting and reinstalling your computer. We advise that all customers visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly to stay on top of the latest patches and updates. In addition, customers with Windows XP can have these updates downloaded automatically. To activate this function (which we highly recommend), do the following:

1. Click on "START" > "SETTINGS" > "CONTROL PANEL"
2. Double-click on the "SYSTEM ICON" and click on the "AUTOMATIC UPDATES" tab.
3. Make sure that your settings look the same as this screen shot.

 

4. When an update is available to install, you will see the Icon on a little globe with the Windows symbol down by the time on your computer.

 

5. Double click on the Globe Icon and click "Install," and that should do it.
