Second school, third school, and the current Community Center

In 1968 the citizens convinced the city officials to buy the old school building for $1. Through the years, people have pulled together to restore the building. It is now used as a community center and the Thomasville Library. The non-profit is run by a 10 member board. The Library was moved into the old school in the mid 1970's when Mary Gum was the librarian. In 1987, Helen Daffron ran it. In June of 1996, Bernadette Watkins, a retired Alton school teacher became librarian. It has a public computer workstation. The Library is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The library has preschool story hour twice a month (Story Times) featuring retired Navy Chaplan Claude Malone also known as "Grandpa Claude."

Thomasville went from untamed frontier to a lively community and back to a small quiet small town within 200 years. Throughout, many businesses and buildings have come and gone, but the general feeling and ideas have stayed the same. A total of four schools have been built throughout the town's history. Tree of them can bee seen in the pictures above.

School has not been held there for sometime now but the building still hold great value bringing together the community and providing a place for enjoyment and entertainment. The Community Center is used for family reunions also the activities on the Independence Day Celebration on the Saturday closest to the Fourth of July.
