I have been enjoying reading about Myrtle today! I had gone to the Alton homepage and saw something about Myrtle and something made me click on it. I was wondering if you happen to know the names of the children of Mr. Moore......other than Myrtle. My grandfather was from Alton and my uncle has done quite a bit of work researching our family there. My grandfather's mother died in childbirth and his father remarried a woman named Minnie Moore. My grandfather's last name was Holmes. So her name would have been Minnie Moore Holmes. This would have been around 1900. I'm wondering if she could be a child of Mr. Moore who had the store in Myrtle. My uncle has been looking for information about her. I understand there was at one time a store in Alton called the Moore Store, also. Please respond as quickly as you can. Thank you! Beverly
I wrote recently asking about the family of Mr. Moore......who had the store many years ago there in Myrtle. I was reading over your mail and realized that my e-mail address didn't appear. I guess I thought it would be there automatically even though I didn't sign it that way. In case you need it.....it's BeverlyW58@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Your site made my eyes water a bit. I love to come that way when i can. so when you see a old Missouri boy with a damn Nebraska lic on car, it may be me... I have taken to writing short stories... ao don't be supprised if I don't come up with something one of these days about your city. and maybe in a way I have. http://heartswithsoul.com/smalltowns.htm Bill Walker wildbill6807@yahoo.com

Hello, I'm looking for a lead in finding the maiden name of my Grandmother, Flora Ann Caldwell. It think Caldwell was a previous 'married' name, since she had a daughter named 'Lee Caldwell' before marrying my grandfather, John Byrd. John Byrd was from Myrtle, born in 1853. His first wife was Mary Halstead, also from Myrtle. The brother of John, Arch Byrd and the sister of Mary, Arte Mesa Halstead also married each other...a family sort of thing. But my concern is finding something leading me to Flora Ann....can you help? Thanks if so..and if not....thanks.... Norm Carmack Austin, TX

I have one of a 'Rogers' family who married into the Crass family. It was sent to my grandmother, Caroline M. Crass from her sister, Eliza Rogers. Thanks for passing my query on ...I sure hope something comes of it... Take care my friend, Norm Carmack

OK, This one is a picture of the 'ROGERS' family from Oregon County. On the back was written "Sent to Caroline Crass from Eliza Rogers. Eliza Jane Crass, sister of my great grandmother, Caroline M. Crass, married one John William Rogers on 27 Dec 1877 in Oregon County. Others in the picture are not identified, but I can only assume they are children. Both Eliza and John Rogers were born in 1855, and Caroline came to Texas around 1890ish. I would guess this picture to be made around 1910-1915ish judging from the appearance of ages in the picture. The two children I know of are Jesse H. Rogers, born 1880 , and E. L. Rogers, born 1885. The young lady could be the wife of one of the sons and the little girl could be a grandchild of Eliza and John, maybe. Take care, Thanks, Norm

Hello, I was rereading your webpage and I saw Otto Crass dukeing it out with Henry Underwood. Well, my Great Grandmother was Caroline M. Crass and my Great Great Grandmother was Margaret Underwood b. 16 Dec 1813. I guess these two ruffians were later down the line. I'm sending you an unidentified threesome that I hope you can help with. I only know that they are from left to right, "Oliver, Samuel, Burt"....last names not given. I'm thinking they (or one or two of them) are Crass, Williamson, or Howard.....maybe you can help me out. In either case, I'm 90% sure they hail from Oregon County or at least, Missouri. Oh, I had a great response from the 'society' you referred my query to. Got some real good info...still looking for Flora Ann Caldwell Byrd's maiden name which we think is Williamson maybe...but nothing definite yet. I wonder how many ladies named 'Flora" there were in Missouri in 1870 and 1880 ???hmmm...

Thanks,....

Hello there, Like most of your viewers, I suppose, I'm looking for someone ! I'm trying to find some information on my Grandmother, Flora Ann Byrd. I have two marriage certificates or licenses for Flora Ann....the first shows her marrying a man named Leonard Caldwell in Oregon County, MO on 5 Sept 1886 which states she is over the age of 18 and that her name at the time was Flora Williamson. Flora and Leonard had one child together that was named Norah Lee Caldwell, born about 1888. Flora's second marriage after Leonard's death was to John F. Byrd in Oregon County, MO on 29 Dec 1889. I have absolutely no further connection to Flora Ann (Williamson)( Caldwell) Byrd. Would you possibly have any references to a Williamson family in/near Myrtle who had a daughter named Flora Ann around 1868 or so? Or...would there maybe be a birth certificate showing the parents names??? Asking a lot, I know. John F. Byrd, Flora Ann's 2nd husband, was also previously married to a lady named Mary Halstead. I can find no indication of what happened to Mary Halstead who was born about 1856 in Myrtle, MO, but I suspect Mary might have died between 1883 and 1889. Her last noted child was 'Eddie Edith Byrd' b. 2 Aug 1883 in Oregon Co., MO. Would you know what happened to Mary Halstead and where she is buried there? I'm also looking for further info on John F. Byrd's grandfather, John W. Byrd who lived for a time in Myrtle, Jobe or elsewhere in Oregon County. He is the father of Jesse W. Byrd, John F. Byrd's father, and James W. Byrd, both married in Oregon county. Jesse was my G/Grandfather and I do know that he married Caroline M. Crass there in Oregon Co.

Thanks for anything...

Norm Carmack

Hello,

I am very new to the world of computers, but I am trying very hard to find someone in Myrtle Missouri that I could maybe get some information about my grandmothers birthplace. She is going to celebrate her 100th birthday on August 6,2004 and since she lives in California now the state and the county where she resides now are giving her a birthday celebration in August. I am sort of the family historian and I am putting an album of her life together for display at these celebrations. I have photos of my grandmothers school in Myrtle, and she always told me stories of when she lived there and that her father William Jesse Taylor owned the general store in Myrtle. She and her five brothers were born there and I think they moved to California when she was about 19 or 20years old. During the last ten years she has continually asked her family to take her back to Myrtle, as she has such fond memories of her childhood home. We have never been able to take back to see her childhood home, and we know things have changed so much but as I am working on this album of photos spanning her incredible life I thought it would be a nice surprize for her if I could get in touch with someone from back there and find more information about the town during her childhood times or even now. I tried searching for the Chamber of Commerce for Myrtle and couldn't find it or a way to contact them. When I found this web-site I felt like I might be able to get some information. If nothing more than to let your town know that my grandma still loves her birthplace and talks to us about it so much. I would love to hear from you if you might be able to help me out. The photos I have from her childhood include the Fairview School class in 1921, another of the school which seemed to be a one room school, and I have a photo of my grandmother sitting on what must have been one of the first Indian motorcycles made. I also have photos of her parents taken in 1893. Her mothers name was Melsina Rainer Taylor, and the childrens names were Raleigh Wilford, Elgin Roy, Ross Marion, Edgar Ship, Ralph, & Bessie Taylor. Thank You for taking time to read this and if you have any info. for me, my name is Kathie Baker and my e-address is kathndel@mcn.org and I live in Fort Bragg, California. Hope to hear from you soon!
